Exploring the Link between Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Perinatal Mental Health in Low- And Middle-Income Countries
November 2, 2023
8:00am – 9:00am EST
Virtual
A 2016 study showed that adolescent mothers have a 63% higher risk of experiencing perinatal depression compared with adult mothers. Yet the relationship between adolescent sexual and reproductive (SRH) health and adolescent perinatal mental health is not yet well understood.
MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership explored this relationship in a recent publication. Join us for this webinar to discuss the bidirectional relationship between adolescent SRH, including contraceptive use and unintended pregnancy, and perinatal mental health; learn about promising program interventions; and explore areas for future research and learning.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Joanna Lai, Health Specialist, Maternal Newborn Adolescent Health Unit, UNICEF HQ.
Panel speakers:
Liesl Hermanus, The Perinatal Mental Health Project, The University of Cape Town
Professor Manasi Kumar, Department of Psychiatry, University of Nairobi and Institute of Excellence in Global Health Equity, Department of Population Health, New York University
Fidelis, young mother, Tabasamu Café, Nairobi, Kenya
